Martin Specht began his career as a photojournalist in 1989, covering the collapse of the Communist Bloc from East Germany to Romania. In 1991, first trip to Iraq with a two month stay in the region. From 1991 to 2004, numerous journeys to the Balkans and Africa to report on the civil wars and other related stories from both continents. Reportages from the Congo, Rwanda, Liberia, Sudan etc.. In 2001 beginning of a long-term project about space exploration.

 

In 2005 he documented the famine in Niger and the Pakistan earthquake for the United Nations WFP. In 2007, participation in the Noorderlicht „Act of Faith" exhibition and another three month stay in Iraq.

In 2008 his work about the war in Iraq was nominated for the Prix Bayeux for war corrospondents.Also a selection of the Iraq photographs was shown at the photofestival "Visa Pour L'Image" in Perpignan,France.
